Across spiritual traditions, people have wondered whether human life has a deeper purpose and whether love, loss, challenge, and transformation are part of a larger journey.
One spiritual perspective suggests that souls choose earthly life as an opportunity for growth. According to this view, Earth is not a punishment. It is a sacred classroom—a place where joy and grief, strength and vulnerability, connection and separation create experiences that can shape consciousness.
This is a spiritual worldview, not an established scientific fact. There is no scientific evidence demonstrating that souls consciously choose their circumstances before birth or that every hardship was deliberately designed as a lesson. Students and clients are always free to decide what feels true and meaningful to them.
Perhaps remembering our purpose does not mean recovering a literal memory from before birth. It may mean reconnecting with the identity, values, and inner wisdom that became buried beneath fear, expectations, pain, and daily life.
The most helpful question may not be:
“Why was this meant to happen to me?”
It may be:
“What can I learn from what happened?”
“What am I ready to release?”
“Who do I want to become from this moment forward?”
Sometimes meaning is not something waiting to be discovered. Sometimes meaning is something we create.
Exploring the Possible Lesson
The healer can ask:
• What has this experience shown you about yourself?
• What truth are you now able to see?
• What did you need then that you can begin giving yourself now?
• What belief did you form because of the experience?
• Does that belief still serve you?
• What strength have you developed?
• What would healing allow you to do differently?
Do not insist that every experience contains a gift. The client has the right to say that something was senseless, cruel, or wrong. The purpose of the questions is to create possibility, not pressure.
