Cord Cutting — Grief Script

30 min

Full read-aloud script for grief that will not lift — cutting the cords of pain while keeping the love completely intact.

When to Use This

Use this when a client is still tied to someone who has crossed over, and the grief has become heavy rather than loving. Be very clear with them before you begin: you never cut love. You cut the pain.

The Script

1. "Before we begin, I want you to understand something. We are not cutting your love. Love can never be cut, and we would never want to. What we are releasing today is the pain, the guilt, the words you never got to say — the weight that has been sitting on your chest."

2. "Take a deep breath and let it out. This is such a special place that those who have crossed over may come and visit within your experience. Would you like to invite them in now?"

3. "Good. Look up and see them coming toward you. Tell me — what do they look like? How do they appear to you?"

4. "Notice how they look now. Are they well? Are they at peace? Tell me what you notice."

5. "Go to them. Hold them if you want to. Take all the time you need. There is no rush here."

6. "Now say everything you never got to say. Everything. The things you wish you had said, the things you wish you hadn't, the things you have carried since the day they left. Say it all out loud."

7. (Wait. Let them speak fully. Tears are welcome. Do not interrupt.) "Is there anything else?"

8. "Now ask them: is there something you want to say to me? Listen carefully. What are you hearing?"

9. "Ask them one more thing: do you want me to keep carrying this pain? Listen. What do they say?"

10. "Now look at the cords between you. Remember, these are not cords of love. These are the cords of grief. What does the first one represent?" (Common answers: guilt, regret, anger, abandonment, unfinished words, the moment of death, the way they suffered.)

11. Work through each cord one at a time. Have your client speak to that specific emotion, and let their loved one respond, before you move on.

12. "You have named them all. Now tell them: 'I will always love you. I will always carry you. But I am ready to put the pain down.'"

13. "On the count of three, cut the cords of grief — and leave the love completely untouched. One. Two. Three. Cut, and hold the ends up into the light."

14. (Pause.) "Watch the fireworks. Watch the guilt, the regret, the heaviness release into the light. What do you see?"

15. "As the show ends, the cords dissipate. Now notice — is the love still there? Of course it is. It always will be."

16. "Say goodbye for now, and know you can visit them here any time you wish. Watch them go home into the light. Take a deep breath in, and blow it out of your mouth. How does that feel?"
