When to Use This
Use this when your client feels tied to a person, a job, a household, or a situation that drains them and keeps repeating itself. They may say, "I can't stop thinking about it," or "Every time I get free, it pulls me back in."
The Script
1. "Take a nice deep breath in through your nose, and let it go out through your mouth. Let your shoulders drop. You don't have to carry this anymore. Today we are going to name it, speak to it, and release it."
2. "In front of you now, I want you to see the situation. It may look like a person, or a building, or a room, or even a shape or a color. However it shows itself to you is exactly right. Tell me what you see."
3. "Good. Now step close to it. You are safe, and I am right here with you. This is your moment to say everything you have never been able to say. Say it out loud or say it in your mind — either way, I want you to say all of it. Take your time. Don't hold anything back."
4. (Wait. Let them speak until they are finished. Do not rush this.) "Is there anything else? Anything at all?"
5. "Now ask it: why did this happen? Why did you have to carry this? Listen for the answer. What are you hearing?"
6. "Now I want you to see the cords between you and this situation. These are cords of negative emotion. There are no cords of love here, and we wouldn't cut those anyway. Cutting these does not remove anyone from your life — it removes the weight. How many cords do you see?"
7. "What does the first cord represent?" (Let them name the emotion — resentment, obligation, fear, guilt, feeling trapped.) "Tell that emotion everything you need to tell it. How long have you carried it? What has it cost you?"
8. Repeat step 7 for each cord, one at a time. Do not move to the next cord until the emotion has been spoken and heard.
9. "You have named them all. Now it is time to release them. On the count of three, cut every cord. Cut them however you wish — scissors, a blade, your own hands. Then hold the ends up into the light. One. Two. Three. Cut the cords and hold the ends up into the light."
10. (Pause.) "Watch the fireworks show. Watch every one of those emotions release out of you and into the universe. Surrender them to God, to the light, to the higher power. Tell me what you see."
11. "As the fireworks fade, the cords dissipate. Take one more deep breath in, and blow it all the way out of your mouth. Feel how much lighter you are. How does that feel?"
12. "Now look at the situation one more time. It has no hold on you. Shrink it down until it is small and insignificant, and let it drift away. It is finished."
