What Is Past Life Regression?
A plain-English introduction to one of the most powerful — and most misunderstood — forms of healing hypnotherapy.
A simple definition
Past life regression is a form of hypnotherapy where the client, in a deeply relaxed state, revisits memories and images that appear to come from a life before this one. Whether you view those memories as literal, symbolic, or a bit of both, the healing is real: the subconscious releases the emotion tied to them.
What a session actually feels like
Most clients describe it as somewhere between a vivid daydream and a memory. You are always aware. You can talk, adjust your position, and open your eyes at any time. The hypnotherapist guides you — with your permission — through a scene, gently asking what you notice, who is there, and what happens next.
What it can help with
- Unexplained fears (water, heights, abandonment, choking)
- Recurring patterns in relationships
- Grief that never seems to soften
- Physical sensations with no medical cause
- A sense that "something old" is still hurting
How it fits with Divine Healing Hypnotherapy
In Susan Lawrence's method, past life regression is one instrument in a much larger toolkit. It works alongside the Divine State of Mind® — a state where the client meets guides, deceased loved ones, or their higher self — and the RESET Technique©, which releases the emotional charge stored in the body.
Is it safe?
In the hands of a properly trained hypnotherapist, yes. A safe practitioner establishes trust, uses grounding language, brings clients back gently, and knows when a memory needs to be processed slowly. This is exactly what the Past Life Regression Certification curriculum teaches.
Where to start
If you are curious as a client, find a certified practitioner and book an introductory session. If you feel called to guide others, the Divine Healing Hypnotherapy Certification teaches past-life regression from the first session to the final integration.
